black love is healing, expansive, grounding, transformative, sexy, belonging, beautiful, affirming, intimate. growing up in predominantly white intellectual spaces, i spent so much time and energy trying to get white people to understand racial oppression - in an essence, to affirm my humanity. when black love moved from being just a phrase to a practice for me, i decided to actively divest my time & energy from whiteness and to direct all of it towards affirming and loving my blackness & black people. that mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual shift has been one of the most liberating decisions i’ve ever made. we live in a society that was built on and continues to perpetuate the belief that to be black is to be less than. every act, thought, feeling that counters that message is an active form of resistance to this system and a radical practice.
